Garden of Eden

Garden of Eden - Idyllic Visions

In this show, presented at the Folk Tree in Pasadena, artists were asked to give their personal interpretations of paradise - everything from interpretations of the Adam and Eve story to various spiritual and religious themes, pastoral landscapes and homages to nature.

Earth, Wind, and Fire

Earth, Wind, and Fire

As part of a group show at Papa Don's Deli in South Pasadena, I'm showing sculptures that represent the elements of earth, wind, and fire to celebrate the onset of spring.

Poocha Va Voom!

Poocha Va Voom!

Gnome Show

Garden Gnomes and Ice Cream Cones

Lighten up with Garden Gnomes & Ice Cream Cones, a celebration of whimsy and popular icons in painting. The images in this collection appeal to the inner baby in all of us.

Siren Song

Siren Song

Siren Song celebrates female beauty and sensuality in painting and sculpture, while adhering to the blue laws that prohibit nudity in publicly displayed art. Three large triptychs depict mermaids performing music, song, and dance, like updated versions of classical muses.

Nude Swim

What is Nude Swim?

Nude Swim is a celebration of freedom and fun that integrates papier-mâché sculpture and gardening in an intimate setting. Several papier-mâché nudes swim through a dry underwater garden composed of succulents and other drought-tolerant plants that mimic a tropical coral reef.

Pig Flower

Evolution of the Pig Flower

The pig flower is a funny, happy creation inspired by the work of a real child in collaboration with my inner one. I was working on the papier-mâché nudes in my outdoor studio (i.e., the driveway) when a delightful girl hailed me from the second-floor balcony of the apartment complex across the alley.

Mariachi Snowmen

Mariachi Snowmen

It was early December and too cool and damp to work outside on papier-mâché. My art buddy, Gilda suggested that we paint indoors on small pieces of cardboard, or, in my case, canvas board. We had been to an art sale in East LA where there were lots of Day of the Dead items. A favorite theme is musicas or skeletons playing instruments.

La Catrina

La Catrina

La catrina is a pervasive figure in Mexican Day of the Dead celebrations. She has a husband, el catrin, who is much less popular. According to different traditions, they are Mr. and Mrs. Death, or just representations of rich people, who, like the rest of us, end up dead in the end despite the fancy clothes.
